SUPER SUNDAY

Saturday came to London with the joy of the sunshine. Following an early wake-up and breakfast, we walked to Broadway Market by the Regent’s Canal. At weekend, for us the best time for walking in canal is early hours of the day, before big happy families, lost tourists and crazy cyclists time. The Regent’s Canal walk is one of our favorites in London. Every time you can see different boats each with its own character, discover little details like a street/canal art, a wood fired earth oven or meet a big heron in the middle of the city.

After the Broadway Market, we walked back home, then to Camden Passage Market and Chapel Market. Bought some photography books, some christmas decorations, made some grocery shopping and tea time, we enjoyed our recorded dramas, photography books at home.

We were expecting another sunny day today but, you know... Then we changed our plans to go to Colombia Road Flower Market and following a lazy morning at home, we went to King’s Head to celebrate the “Super Sunday” accompanied by few pints. First match of the day, Aston Villa-Man United was a good quality 90 minutes football. Man United won with a scor 0-3 against Aston Villa. The next match Tottenham-Liverpool, despite the 5 goals of Liverpool wasn’t as tasty as the first match but the result was nice. (Sorry Terry, “it” happens).

Now it’s the time for curry, then tea and British crime dramas at home. Super Sunday=Happy Sunday.

PUB TIPS FOR FOREIGNERS

SPRING

Since sunday, the winter is gone and yesterday night, for the first time since months, we had a drink outside of our pub.

Today it’s confirmed and it’s officially spring in our little kingdom. Yaaay! 

HOLBORN WHIPPET

In one of the underground advertisements, we saw an event named Istanbul Inn London which will take place at the Victoria House in Holborn between 12-15 April 2013. And as two Turks who live in London, today we went to visit this Art&Design  event. Result: Disaster? Dissapointment? Both?

Except few pieces, it was a really poor exhibition and it was hard to understand which part of this event brings Istanbul to London. It was exactly like the degree show of  a university.

After there, we tried our chance to visit Pompei exhibition in British Museum but all tickets were sold out until the end of May and they said that they release only limited tickets daily. Only chance to visit today was at 19.00 o’clock and we gave up visiting the exhibition and walked to Sicilian Avenue to try a new pub we saw several times when we were passing from there.

Holborn Whippet is a new, modern pub which provide craft beers and food. We tried their steak sandwich and Bloomsbury burger. Except the cold chips, the food was good. König Pilsner which we tried also was tasty. We loved their beer taps.

But nobody cared about the amount of empty dishes and glasses at the tables during half an hour. This wasn’t pleasant. The other thing,  first response to our mustard petition, was a quick “Sorry, we don’t have”. When we remind they serve burger and chips and asked again, two minutes later, the mustard was at the table. Why to say “no” first time? Mystery... But generally worth to go and try their beer and food.  

PROMISE

Rosemary Branch Theatre is one of the our neighborhood theatres. Under the theatre there is also a theatre pub where some days is taking place live piano performance. This cozy, fifty seats theatre, is in five minutes walking distance to our home and has a special place in our hearts for being the first theatre we went in London.

Yesterday evening, we were there again, this time for watching the Promise, an American adaptation of Chechov’s Three Sister written by Sophie Angelson and directed by James Kemp. This is the story of Peters sisters who moved from New York to Nebraska in 1927. Now this is 1938 and the life is not so joyful as it was before...  

FIRST SECONDS OF THE NEW YEAR

We believe the new year depends how you begin to it. This is the photo of the first seconds of our new year. 2013 came to us with great music, dance, lots of booze, happy people and ...jump! ...jump! ...jump!

TWO PINTS IN PAXTONS HEAD

Today while we were walking in Knightsbridge we stopped in one of the cozy, old pubs of London, in Paxtons Head for a pint. Outside there was a cold and very grey day but after stepped inside once, we were in a early christmassy coziness.

Christmas craziness already began in our little kingdom early november and in this lovely pub it was the same.We settled in the comfortable chairs next to the fireplace and enjoyed the early christmas while we were drinking our Guinness.  What a lovely life!
